As someone whose writing primarily appears online, it's nice to physically hold the fruits of my labour. Such was the case this week when copies of the 2014 Friends of Canadian Broadcasting calendar arrived in my mailbox.

Projects like this provide the opportunity to stretch my horizons - in this case, to write about Canadian history outside of my usual Toronto habitat. Being paired with striking images is the icing on the cake.

The Scribbler

This is the scribble pad of writer Jamie Bradburn, where personal stories, writing exercises, and other loose ends are finding a home. It's where I throw words against a wall and see if they stick.

Material in this vein used to appear on JB's Warehouse and Curio Emporium, which quietly passed away in the middle of the night without anybody noticing. Also check out Tales of Toronto, which revisits my old work and will include new stories from the history of the city I call home.

Professionally, I am a freelance writer/historian whose work has earned Heritage Toronto and National Magazine Awards. For a decade I was a staff writer for Torontoist, contributing to its long-running "Historicist" column. Currently I contribute regularly to TVO’s website. My work has also been published by Canadaland, Canadian Encyclopedia/Historica Canada, Friends of Canadian Broadcasting, Heritage Toronto, OpenFile, Quill and Quire, Spacing, The Grid, Toronto Life, Toronto Star, and Tourism Toronto. I have also contributed to exhibitions presented by Mysuem of Toronto and PAMA.
